BELLEVUE MINE
With a steadfast commitment to sustainability, Bellevue Gold is at the forefront of responsible mining practices, achieving net zero (Scope 1 and Scope 2) greenhouse gas emissions in 2025 - a world first in gold production.
LOCATED IN LEINSTER
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
In Western Australia’s Goldfields, Bellevue is showing what the next generation of gold mining can look like.
Its substantial onsite wind, solar and battery infrastructure sits at the heart of an ambitious decarbonisation strategy — and in 2025 the Bellevue Gold Project became the world’s first gold mine to achieve net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
For SMO, Bellevue is a pioneer in gold-mining decarbonisation, demonstrating how major investment in renewable energy and emissions reduction can transform the operational carbon footprint of a modern gold mine.

BELLEVUE GOLD MINE
ABOUT THE MINE
Nestled in the Northern Goldfields region of Western Australia, the Bellevue Gold mine emerges as a beacon of promise in the realm of gold mining.
Bellevue Gold recently transitioned from a developer to producer, with the first gold pour on 25 October 2023.
Bellevue set itself an ambitious target: to achieve net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions at the Bellevue Gold Project by 2026. It reached that milestone ahead of schedule in 2025 - a significant achievement for a newly developed gold mine and one that places Bellevue at the forefront of operational decarbonisation in the sector.
The achievement is underpinned by major investment in renewable-energy infrastructure, emissions-reduction measures and transparent carbon accounting.
RESPONSIBLE MINING
ESG PERFORMANCE
Bellevue has built a detailed ESG reporting framework around the operation, publishing environmental, social and governance performance through its annual Sustainability Report and ESG Data Pack. Its reporting references recognised frameworks including GRI, SASB, TCFD and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Bellevue Gold mine spearheads renewable energy initiatives, including the installation of a 90 MW off-grid hybrid power station, aimed at reducing the emissions, through use of a 27 MW solar farm and 24 MW wind farm. Water management strategies prioritise hypersaline water utilisation to minimise fresh water consumption. Tailings and waste management practices focus on responsible disposal.
Safety is paramount at Bellevue, with a culture of safety leadership and continuous improvement. The company supports a diverse and inclusive workforce, with initiatives for Indigenous trainees, flexible work arrangements and targeting high female employment rates across the company. Additionally, Bellevue Gold fosters community partnerships, making significant economic contributions to the local region.
INDUSTRY LEADER
RENEWABLE ENERGY AND NET ZERO
Bellevue has made gold-mining history. In 2025, the Bellevue Gold Project became the world’s first gold mine to achieve net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
Bellevue reached this milestone through substantial investment in onsite renewable energy and emissions-reduction measures, supported by renewable energy certificates, with Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) surrendered to offset its remaining Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
At the centre of the strategy is Bellevue’s approximately 90 MW off-grid hybrid power system, incorporating 27 MW of solar, 24 MW of wind and a 15 MW / 29 MWh battery energy storage system alongside thermal generation. Bellevue has also demonstrated periods of operation with thermal generation switched off, including extended periods powered entirely by instantaneous renewable energy.
Together, these measures make Bellevue one of the most compelling examples of operational decarbonisation in modern gold mining — and give SMO customers access to fully traceable gold from a mine with a genuinely distinctive environmental story.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP & BIODIVERSITY
Bellevue’s dedication to environmental stewardship is evident in its Environmental Policy and the development of a comprehensive Environmental Management System.
The company conducts comprehensive studies in flora, fauna, vegetation, and hydrology to preserve biodiversity and minimise its environmental footprint. Bellevue Gold is proactively planning for rehabilitation and mine closure.
