ABOUT THE MINE

Located in Senegal, the westernmost country in West Africa, Sabodala-Massawa is the country’s largest gold mine.

In 2025, the mine produced 273,533 ounces of gold.

Sabodala-Massawa joined SMO as a member mine in 2025, enabling its gold to remain segregated and fully traceable throughout the processing, refining and sales chain.

BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION

Sabodala-Massawa has established a 1,500-hectare “No-Go Zone” within the mine permit to protect habitat for the critically endangered western chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes verus), also known as the West African chimpanzee.

Conservation efforts include building protective barriers and providing water holes for wildlife, ensuring a balance between mining activities and natural habitats.

Sabodala-Massawa maintained a strong safety record in 2025, recording a Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate of 0.14.

Continuous safety training and emergency preparedness initiatives help maintain a safe working environment for employees and contractors.

COLLABORATIVE APPROACH

LOCAL EMPOWERMENT

In 2025, Sabodala-Massawa had a total workforce of 2,829 people, with 95% of Endeavour employees at the mine being Senegalese nationals.

The mine also directed 81% of its procurement spend to national and local suppliers in 2025, amounting to $295 million. Endeavour continues to engage regularly with local stakeholders on employment opportunities, local procurement, capacity building and community development projects.

LOCAL INVESTMENT

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

In 2025, Sabodala-Massawa invested approximately $2.35 million directly in community initiatives focused on education, health, economic development, access to water and local infrastructure.

Including its contribution to the Local Mining Development Fund, the mine’s total social investment amounted to approximately $4.25 million.

RENEWABLES FOCUSED

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Sabodala-Massawa integrates renewable energy and greenhouse gas emissions management into its operations.

In 2025, the mine’s 37 MWp solar PV plant completed its first full year of operation, generating 47.2 GWh of renewable electricity and helping reduce reliance on diesel generation and lower Scope 1 emissions.

COMMUNITY CARE

HEALTH AND EDUCATION IMPACT

The mine continued to invest in workforce and community health, including free screening programmes covering diabetes, hypertension, HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and hepatitis B.
