MEMBER MINES
SMO Member Mines are selected for their ability to combine traceable gold production with strong, transparent mine-level performance.
From community investment and local employment to biodiversity, safety and environmental management, each mine has its own story to tell - and the evidence to support it. Together, they form a growing community committed to responsible production, clear provenance and measurable progress.
“We can only thank Single Mine Origin who have actually provided us with a platform for the entire world to see what we are doing and why it matters.”

ITY
Ity has the longest history of any gold mine in Côte d’Ivoire and has produced more than 1.2 million ounces of gold in over 25 years of operations.
In 2021, Ity was awarded the Ivorian Mining Excellence Award for its environmental, social and governance initiatives.
Located in Zouan-Hounien, Ity was the first of Endeavour’s mines to become an SMO Member Mine - bringing more than three decades of gold production together with strong mine-level ESG performance and full provenance.
MINING DECARBONISATION
BELLEVUE
Located in the Northern Goldfields of Western Australia, Bellevue is one of Australia’s newest major gold mines and poured first gold on 25 October 2023.
In 2025, the Bellevue Gold Project made mining history by becoming the world’s first gold mine to achieve net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
At the heart of that achievement is an approximately 90 MW off-grid hybrid power system incorporating 27 MW of solar, 24 MW of wind and battery storage alongside thermal generation - a major investment in operational decarbonisation and renewable energy.
BIODIVERSITY PRESERVATION
SABODALA-MASSAWA
Sabodala-Massawa is the largest producing gold mine in Senegal and has been in operation for over a decade, since 2009.
Sabodala-Massawa is Senegal’s largest producing gold mine and one of Endeavour Mining’s cornerstone operations. Acquired by Endeavour in 2021 and subsequently expanded with a new BIOX processing facility, the mine combines scale with a strong and increasingly well-evidenced record across environmental performance, local employment and community investment.
Sabodala-Massawa joined SMO as a Member Mine in 2025, enabling its gold to be supplied with named-mine provenance through a segregated and traceable Chain of Custody.
Located in Senegal, the Sabodala-Massawa mine is a pivotal asset of Endeavour Mining's portfolio.

SHOWCASE YOUR ESG LEADERSHIP
SMO is designed for mines with strong, demonstrable environmental and social performance and a commitment to transparency.
Member Mines are assessed against defined eligibility criteria and recognised responsible-mining frameworks, including the World Gold Council’s Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs), the IRMA Standard for Responsible Mining and ICMM Mining Principles, as applicable. SMO also reviews mine-level environmental and social information, provenance, jurisdiction and risk factors.
If your mine has a strong ESG record, transparent mine-level reporting and a story worth telling, we would like to hear from you.
EXPANDING TRACEABILITY
ASSOCIATE MINES
At SMO, our mission is to make responsibly sourced, fully traceable gold accessible across the industry.
Alongside our Member Mines, we are proud to work with a group of Associate Mines that share SMO’s commitment to transparency, provenance and responsible production. Where an Associate Mine supplies SMO Gold, its provenance can be traced back to the named source mine through the relevant traceability route.
ASSOCIATE MINE
NALUNAQ
Nalunaq joins us as our first associate mine.
Based in Greenland, and operated by Amaroq, they are dedicated to building a transparent and responsible supply of gold that connects its operations to markets in a way that benefits all stakeholders.
By collaborating with Amaroq, SMO Gold is helping to increase the range of traceable gold available to the industry, whilst highlighting the role of innovative mining companies committed to openness and accountability.

Reap the Rewards
MEMBERSHIP BRINGS BENEFITS
SMO was founded to meet growing demand for gold with detailed provenance — and to give progressive, well-managed mines a platform to demonstrate strong mine-level ESG performance alongside the traceability of their gold.
Jewellery houses, manufacturers and investors are increasingly asking not only where their gold comes from, but for evidence of the performance of the mine that produced it. SMO gives Member Mines a direct route to those markets, connecting traceable production with customers who value provenance, transparency and responsible sourcing.
Membership also provides a platform for mines to communicate their achievements more clearly - helping strong mine-level performance translate into greater recognition across the gold and jewellery supply chain.
Benefit #1
PR & MARKETING
Through SMO, mining corporations are associated with prestigious jewellery houses, keen to increase their ESG credentials and obtain detailed provenance for their gold.
This can drive PR coverage for the mines in question, raising high profile awareness amongst potential investors, other jewellery houses, industry leaders, conscious consumers, and indeed other mines.
To date, SMO has appeared in high profile media titles such as the Financial Times, New York Times, Telegraph, Vanity Fair, Vogue & Times magazine as well as receiving media exposure for product placement, with SMO jewellery worn to the Met Gala 2023. To date, annual media value for mining partners has consistently exceeded £250k.
SMO member mines are also featured in social media campaigns across various platforms, raising profiles, visibility & demand for responsibly sourced gold.
Benefit #2
INTERNAL ENGAGEMENT
Recognition as an SMO Member Mine gives employees and internal stakeholders another reason to be proud of the operation they represent.
It provides an external platform to showcase traceability, responsible-mining initiatives and mine-level performance to employees, investors and the wider industry.
That visibility can support internal engagement, recruitment and external communication — helping teams see how their work contributes to a wider story of responsible, transparent gold production.
Benefit #3
ADVOCACY
SMO believes that commercial mining, when carried out responsibly and transparently, can be a force for good.
Too often, the positive economic, social and environmental contribution of well-managed mines is lost in a broader narrative about the impacts of mining.
SMO gives responsible operators a platform to tell that story with evidence. Through articles, discussion panels, podcasts, events and social media, we highlight the mine-level performance, community investment, environmental initiatives and provenance behind our Member Mines — helping a wider audience understand what responsible large-scale gold production can look like.
“Endeavour has had a robust ESG strategy in place for a long time and we have achieved the RGMP’s. Only when we joined SMO did we feel there was a vehicle that segregated our gold and officially recognised it as responsibly sourced all the way to the end consumer. This has had measurable positive impact on staff morale and our mission in general.“

Benefit #4
GOLD PREMIUMS
SMO member mines benefit from growing demand for fully traceable, segregated gold used in the watch and jewellery industry, as well as in small-scale physical investment products.
As demand for detailed provenance continues to increase, adoption of SMO Gold is accelerating, supported by SMO’s long-term commitment to responsible sourcing and transparency.
SMO can also facilitate the production of physical investment products - coins and bars, bespoke to each member mine, and provide access to a trading platform to market these products. Such products are highly appealing to conscious investors, stakeholders and employees.
Philanthropic Endeavours
THE SMO FOUNDATION
The SMO foundation is a philanthropic initiative, established by SMO to enrich & empower the lives of all within the wider communities of mining operations.
The foundation will complement the outstanding work that the SMO member mines are already undertaking, as part of their commitment & drive. By strategically directing resources and fostering partnerships, the aim is to enhance & amplify existing endeavours.
The SMO Foundation is managed by Giving Works, Charity no. 1078770
Research & Evaluation
STRINGENT SELECTION CRITERIA
At SMO, responsible sourcing starts at the mine. Our selection process is designed to identify operations that combine clear provenance with strong, transparent environmental and social performance.
We bring together defined eligibility criteria, recognised responsible-mining frameworks and detailed mine-level ESG information. The SMO ESG Benchmark was developed to support this process by collating and standardising environmental, social and governance data disclosed by gold-mining companies, making mine-level performance easier to understand and compare.
This evidence-led approach allows SMO to look beyond broad sustainability claims and focus on what is actually happening at the source of the gold.
IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS
RIGOROUS ASSESSMENT
SMO’s assessment works at two levels. First, we look at the mining company itself — reviewing governance, recognised responsible-mining frameworks, relevant third-party information and the systems that sit behind its ESG performance.
We then look at the individual mine, assessing environmental and social performance, provenance, jurisdiction and other material risk factors. Only mines that satisfy SMO’s eligibility and due-diligence requirements can become SMO Approved Mines.
Where a mine operates in a higher-risk or conflict-affected jurisdiction, we go further, applying enhanced due diligence before any approval decision is made. This layered approach allows SMO to recognise strong operators while responding appropriately to the different risks and realities of individual mining locations.
