SMO Gold proudly announces Chain of Custody certification by the Responsible Jewellery Council

Less than a decade ago, only a tiny proportion (roughly 4%) of the world’s mined gold was thought to be traceable, due to the complexities of how it is melted down, refined and traded.

SMO Gold endeavoured to prove that a responsibly sourced and fully segregated supply chain was not only possible, and scalable, but that each batch of gold could have traceability built in – able to be tracked from mine of origin to final product via a unique batch number and QR code. Addressing a long, convoluted legacy in gold mining, SMO Gold’s rigorous, third-party audited process set a new standard for how the precious metal could – and should – be produced, reducing environmental impact and illicit activity and supporting positive industry change without unnecessary premiums.

Today, as industry standards continue to rise, the company is proud to announce that it has been awarded Chain of Custody certification by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). This voluntary standard preserves a totally verifiable chain of responsibility, and gives brands, manufacturers and buyers even more assurance on the provenance of SMO Gold. It also underscores the company’s guiding principles of responsibility, transparency and traceability – ones that SMO Gold hopes will one day become the norm.
